My blog has moved to a new location
December 28th, 2008 by Teemu HarjuHowdy! I just thought I should mention that I’ve moved my blog to a new address. That is blog.teemu.im. Come and check it out. This site will disappear at some point in time.
Hi, my name is Teemu Harju. I'm a 27-year-old engineer from Espoo, Finland and this is site is my contribution to the world wide web. I'll write here about all kinds of stuff that interests me. Python coding is my passion. I'm also interested in different kinds of web technologies.
Howdy! I just thought I should mention that I’ve moved my blog to a new address. That is blog.teemu.im. Come and check it out. This site will disappear at some point in time.
I did yet another style update for the site. After a while, the last theme I used started to feel a bit too much eye-candy and it didn’t work very well on the Internet Explorer so I decided to make my own theme. This one is based on a CSS template made by Andreas Viklund. I’m still not totally satisfied with it and it still does not work correctly on Internet Exporer, but I’m working on it.
To celebrate the summer I thought I should update the blog layout a little. It was sort of outdated already. This is what I came up with. It is still “under construction”, but I try to fix it little by little and probably by the end of the summer it will be final.
I just got invited to Pownce. Thanks to salvatore for that. It’s like Twitter but way better. It allows users to do micro-blogging, and share links and files between each other. You can follow my public profile here. I just wish I could use Pownce also from my Nokia N800 or from my mobile phone. It would be more real-time that way since I’m carrying those with me pretty much all the time. Well, maybe they’ll open an API soon so I could write some client for that purpose then. Btw, I’ve got couple of invites left to share if someone is interested.
I’m testing www.imified.com. I have to say that I’m impressed. Check it out!
My domain name was not re-registered after the one year billing period and the site was not reachable for a while due to that. I guess that my e-mail bil had gotten lost somewhere along the way to my mailbox. Luckily the service provider re-registered my name quicky and now I’m again safe for a year. I might consider switching to paper bil that will be delivered with the good old snail-mail to my front door. It feels safer that way.
Huh, I was really amazed this morning when I just randomly tried this link and it worked. The link is or course the page at Nokia Online store that allows one to order the N800 (the improved Nokia 770). The price for Finland was €399. So not too much in my opinion. I was even so eager that I had to pay €32 extra to get it delivered by tomorrow. If you can wait 3-4 days the delivery is free of charge. Lets see if I get it tomorrow. I’ll keep writing progess here in my blog.

FON was offering their WLAN access points for free here in Finland, so I went and ordered one. It didn’t cost me anything so I had nothing to lose. I have to say that I’m really impressed of the quality that FON has been able to produce with this thing. The access point was packed in a very cool looking package. Also the instructions manual was way better than in any manual of a “commerical product” I’ve seen. Also, the WLAN AP itself has a cool and kind of Apple look. Look at the image below. Doesn’t that D-Link router look damn ungly next to the FON router. I’m running my FON access point in a “Linus” mode, so all other Foneros, you are welcome to use my shared access and you can expect me lurking at your corners as well.
Huh, man it has been a hot summer here in Finland. It has been something like 30 degrees centigrade for a month now and I’m sort of thinking that this starts to be enough. Anyway, I haven’t been writing to my blog for quite a while now. I was on a vacation for some time and in couple of weeks I will go out for some more. Meanwhile, a lot has been happening with the Nokia Internet Tablet. The final version of the 2006 software has been released and now we finally have also a almost fully functional Python runtime for the Maemo 2.0 platform as well. Now it is time to start making some serious Python applications for the Nokia 770.
I bet that everyone that has the Nokia 770 knows about the Maemo Mapper. I’ve also been using it for some time know and finally yesterday I wen out and bought myself a bluetooth GPS receiver so that I can fully utilize the power of Maemo Mapper. I have to say that I’m impressed. It works like a charm. Btw… the GPS receiver that I have is Insmat InsSiRF III.
This blog of mine has been drowning in comment spam recently. It is taking me too much time to delete the spam comments so I’ve decided to include this randomly generated image thing that you need to figure out before you’re able to post a comment. I’m sorry for the extra trouble but I think this might be a good way to reduce the spamming. Lets see if it works.
