New Nokia 770 software image available

April 20th, 2006 by Teemu

It was announced on Maemo mailing list couple of minutes ago that a new Nokia 770 software version is available for download. Get it here.

Version number is 5.2006.13-7, but sadly there is no changelog available. It is still the 2005 edition, so don’t expect it to do VoIP quite yet.

My Nokia 770 can speak

April 19th, 2006 by Teemu

For some time now I’ve been waiting for a proper release of Flite to show up on Nokia 770 and now it has happened. Flite is a free text-to-speech application that makes your tablet talk the talk. Check moimart’s blog to download a test application.

The Flite tablet edition includes also a D-BUS service so that it can be used from other applications. Just imagine what cool things you could do with this one. Wouldn’t it be nice to get your tablet wake you up in the morning and read the weather forecast or news headlines to you. Now I still need to wait for the D-BUS libraries to come out for Pymaemo and I will make that happen (if someone who knows C-programming has not done it before that).

PS. However I still prefer my girlfriend to wake me up in the morning, but she just won’t read the weather forecast or the news headlines for me no matter how nice i ask. ;)

Sorry IE users

April 19th, 2006 by Teemu

I was just browsing through the statistics of my site using Google Analytics and was pleasantly surprised that 60 per cent of the visitor of my site were using Mozilla Firefox. Of course more users all the time are moving from IE to other browsers, but this number felt like too good to be true. Once I opened my site with IE, I understood the reason.

Recently I moved all the images on my blog to Flickr to save bandwidth. Then I also changed the width of the images and for some reason it totally messed up the site for IE. It’s no wonder since we all know how well IE handles CSS etc. Well at first I thought that IE users get what they’ve asked for, but now I’ve edited the site so that it works also with IE. Sorry IE users… I’ll try my best to support you from now on.

Google Calendar is out - not for Nokia 770 though

April 13th, 2006 by Teemu

I noticed this morning that Google Calendar is available for public. I’ve been waiting it since I heard that it was coming, since I would have liked to use it on my Nokia 770. Unfortunately it does not work yet with Opera browser as you can see from the screenshot below. I need to wait still…

Reveal - The coolest Firefox extension ever

April 3rd, 2006 by Teemu

I just noticed that the Extend Firefox Contest has ended and the results have been released. Forgive me if this is old news, but I just found about it. Well, that itself is not the reason for this post. The winner extension of this contest was Reveal and oh boy… it is really nice. What it does is that it shows the thumbnails of the pages in your session history and tabs and allows you to easily switch between them. In addition to this it also includes a really easy to use magnifying glass.

The thumbnail thing is something that I’ve always wanted to see on Firefox. A similar thing exists on the new Series 60 open source web browser for mobile phones. Here is a screenshot of the Reveal extension, but screenshots don’t do justice for an extension like this. You need to try it…
