Rhythmbox ported for Nokia 770
Renato Oliveira has finished porting Rhythmbox music player for Nokia 770. The install package is available for download from here. In addition of being a great looking music player, it also has support for podcasting and DAAP.

Hi Donovan…
I believe that it would be possible to use DAAP with iTunes. I mean there is an option in iTunes to share your music. It works at least with my xbox so I think it should be possible also with Rhythmbox. I haven’t tested Rhythmbox yet, so I’m not sure about this. Has anyone tried this already? Anyway, I’ll test it as soon as I get home from work.

Now I tested the Rhythmbox with iTunes music sharing and as I suspected it works. Berofe starting Rhythmbox you need to use xterm to start mDNSResponder service. You can do it like this in xterm (its also shown in the README file on Renato’s site).
/var/lib/install/usr/bin/mDNSResponder
Then if you have enabled sharing music form iTunes settings you will see your songs as a playlist. You need to have iTunes running on some machine for this to work.

Thanks, Teemu. It works for me using the iTunes/Rhythmbox combo.

doesn’t seem to work with itunes running on osx though.
my shared itunes appears in the left hand window of rythmbox on the 770, but clicking on it doesn’t show any songs in the browser…

Has anyone had luck getting Rhythmbox to work with OS 2006?
I just purchased a 770, and the Rhythmbox installation will not work because it is “incompatible with current software”.
Thanks
