Nokia 770 software update
Nokia has already released a software update for 770. I just recently updated mine. It was relatively easy. Once you type your 770’s MAC address to the form on the software upgrade page you can get to the actual download page. From there you can get an upgrade software that works on Windows (Check here if you have Linux of Mac OS). I had some minor problems when I tried to update the device. I was doing this on Windows XP. At the first time I got an error message saying that the update software was not able to write on the USB device. I don’t know whether there was something wrong with the Windows XP or what, but on the second time the update went through. It was relatively easy to do and I think anyone who can attach an USB device on their computer will be able to do it. I cannot say much about the improvements in this version yet, but at least it seems like it’s a little faster to use.

how long did the update take? i think i may also be having problems with the update. the update progress graph has been frozen at 10% complete for 15 minutes… which seems long. i think the system is hung. i’ve tried this twice with the same result.

The update takes only few minutes. I remeber having the same problem that you had, but it happened only once. I think it had something to do with Windows XP USB connectivity. Also I’ve noticed that if you have root mode enabled, then you cannot flash the firmware. At least that is the case with Windows. I’m not sure about flashing with Linux. I think I read somewhere that if you have connected your 770 to external USB hub there might be some problems with flashing.
Just keep trying. Eventually it will update.
BTW. There is new version of the update software (1.5). If you haven’t downloaded that yet.

Oops, I have the same problem - stuck on 10% (which it went to instantly!). Not sure how to try again - I don’t want to power cycle the Nokia in case it’s only half (10% -;) done…
Am trying by restarting the Windows upgrade wizard, but so far it reacts the same (10%).

Hi Kevin,
How long have you let it stay on the 10%? I’ve noticed that sometimes it just stays on that number for a while. But of course it should not take more than couple of minutes. Do you have the root mode enabled? If I remember right that caused some problems for me when I was flashing on Windows. On Linux, the flashing has never failed for me.

hi
I only have a Mac, running OS X. Does the Linux install work for this. It doesn’t mention macs on that Maemo page.
thanks
