Today was my birthday

July 30th, 2005 by Teemu

Wohoo… today was my birthday. I’m 26 years old now. Man, I’m feeling like I’m too old already. Anyway… my girlfriend took me to an amusement park to find my inner child again. Look in the picture… I’m the tenth guy from the left on the back row. That thing I’m sitting in is called “Top Spin”. If you ever go to Linnanmäki in Helsinki I dare you to try it.

Gizmo

July 15th, 2005 by Teemu

I just had to write about this application. I mean the Gizmo from Gizmoproject . People are talking about this beeing the next Skype killer. Quite frankly, I couldn’t care less. Why some application should “kill” Skype. I have nothing against Skype . I mean nothing except that that they don’t use open standards and seem to be quite slow in developing their system. Gizmo on the other hand uses open standards (SIP) and the same audio codecs that Skype has from Global IP Sound. Also they have quite interesting new features like “call subject” where the receiver can see the subject of the call before answering it. Also it has the call recording feature that Skype is lacking. And last but not least there is also a realtime call quality indicator showing network issues that can affect call quality.

Anyway, to be honest I haven’t used these Skype/Gizmo clients that much yet, but I really considering to start using Gizmo regularry. Check it out…

Me so happy again!

Today I got my computer back from the maintenance. :) I was quite surprised that it took only few days from them to fix it. Anyway it’s summer time so I bet they aren’t too busy at the moment. I haven’t tested my computer yet, but I might have to take back some comments I said in my earlier post about Fujitsu-Siemens laptops. This time they changed the entire motherboard so maybe it was the source of all my troubles. Let’s hope so… the guarantee is still only valid for few months on. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi all!

Aaarghh…

My laptop broke down yesterday morning. I am so dissapointed to it. When I bought it about two years ago during Christmas it had two year onsite guarantee. That is good since this was already the second time it broke down. First time was in the beginning of this year when the display of the machine failed. Now it doesn’t even start, just flashes the lights for a short period of time and then nothing happens.

And that’s even not all. The battery on the laptop lasted for a less than a year and I didn’t even use it that much on a battery. When I asked about it from the support they said that it’s pretty normal for the batteries to last about a year. Well I understand if the capasity of the battery decreases during that time but in less than a year the battery didn’t work even for a second.

So what is this great laptop. It is Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 8830D. I have to say that I am very dissapointed… I will never buy anything from Fujitsu-Siemens again. My next laptop will for sure be from Apple.

Finally Google has released a Google Toolbar for Mozilla Firefox. Me so happy! Of course there has been the unofficial toolbar for Firefox for quite some time but this is the official one.
